Dr. Jamil Akbar is an architect, educator, and theorist. His theoretical contributions revolve around the built environment, where he measures quality through concepts such as responsibility, control, ownership, and intervention. He studied architecture at King Saud University and received both his M.Arch.AS. and Ph.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
